What is
amscan?
amscan
is an imaging program which can be used to scan, index and integrate documents
into various formats. amscan is designed to be compatible with all
scanners with a TWAIN or ISIS driver and the program is also compatible with VRS (virtual rescan) scanners.
With
amscan documents of any
size (depending on the capabilities of your scanner) can be scanned in colour
or black and white and at a resolution of 200, 300 or 400 dpi. amscan guides scanning jobs
through a sequence of well-defined stages:
- Job creation (and administration)
- Preparation
- Scanning
- Indexing and QA
- Integration
amscan can handle many jobs set up with different specifications
(resolution, indexing fields, output method, etc.) so once a job is set up,
when the user goes into it in the future all the parameters are already set and
all they have to do is select a batch and start scanning/indexing.
preparation and scanning
amscan's bar coding module
allows bar coded sheets produced at the preparation stage to be scanned
together with the paperwork. The benefits of this are:
- Automatic detection of job and batch when
scanning
- Pre-indexing of batches at the preparation
stage
- File start and end sheets for automatic multi-page
file production
- Replacement sheets for out-sourced images (i.e.
drawings)
In addition the bar coding module allows zoned
capture of bar coded indexing data.
indexing and QA
The indexing module of
amscan has many useful
tools which can help speed up indexing, such as the autofill, lookup, repeat
and zoom features. The indexing module also features a validation tool which
allows you to check/correct any indexing before progressing to the next stage.
Indexing can be done either on a document-by-document basis, by batch, or a
combination of the two. amscan also has OCR capabilities (for images only and alchemy
formats, acrobat has it's own OCR function) enabling you to search for
words/phrases within documents once they are scanned.
integration and controls
There are
various output formats including images only (TIFF or JPEG),
acrobat files or alchemy databases. Within these formats documents
can be multi-paged (if required) and built to user friendly structure for the
client. Throughout the imaging process there are also features that will enable
you to manage production and keep control of your client's work. With
amscan you can have the
information you need at the press of a button:
- Current Job and Batch status
- Operator statistics
- Invoicing statistics
amscan is a user-friendly program, where training is made simple
as there is no need to train your staff on individual products like Adobe
Acrobat, Alchemy etc. amscan provides a common user interface regardless of the final format of the scanned images and with it's versatility and user-friendly controls amscan will increase your productivity, saving you time and money.
